Amani Kids

For Kilimanjaro, I’ve donated to the Amani Kids organization. They are a grassroots, well organized group with minimal overhead, excellent transparency, and a variety of methods by which you can help. Take a moment to learn about them and the fantastic work they’re doing. www.amanikids.org. Just because I’ve already climbed Kili doesn’t mean they can be skipped for the next cause – donating, sending supplies (a list of what they currently need can be found here, and I’d recommend any of the medical items), your time if you’re planning on visiting, or your efforts to raise funds or awareness to others. Try and understand that third world poor is much, much poorer than first world poor. I don’t want to deter you from donating locally, but encourage you to donate to a place where there is no running water, no electricity, few roads, no infrastructure, no social programs, no ready access to medical care, and little opportunity.
